We reside in an age of wonderful technological advancements from the visual technology fields. Photo camera models renew themselves annually using the promise of more mega-pixels and extra features. And yet, if we contemplate it for just a moment, the photo that comes away from each of our video cameras usually has pros and cons that persist through all of the successive appliances undergo our hands.

Now take your photo camera and snap a go from a position including both the vegetation along with the sky. It feels right very telling. Based on the parameters that either your camera or perhaps you choose, some detail of the scene will disappear in the result. Either aspects of the vegetation will blend to black and lose all detail or elements of the sky will blend to white and lose all detail.
In summary, the retina with the camera, its digital sensor, which captures the light of the scene, is not capable of coping with tonal range as big as our eyes can. It may only capture the complete detail in a small range that may be positioned at different numbers of brightness from the camera itself or us. For that, inside a scene such as the one described above that has a large contrast, it ultimately ends up capturing the detail limited to the highlights and mid-tones, or mainly on the mid-tones, or mainly in the shadows and mid-tones. It really cannot capture simultaneously the entire detail of the scene through the darkest towards the brightest areas.
This really is of course a simplification of the scenario that we could describe in a lot more detail. Though the conclusion remains to be the same.
